Lille are moving closer towards snapping up Saint-Etienne winger Dimitri Payet, with the player himself thought keener on a move to Rudi Garcia’s side than Paris Saint-Germain.
The current Ligue 1 champions look to have agreed a fee of around €10M for Payet, despite speculation that Saint-Etienne were holding out for a minimum of €12M for the 24-year-old.
Payet has been offered a four-year contract by Lille and his arrival should go some way to offsetting the club’s disappointment at the loss of midfielder Yohan Cabaye to Newcastle and also the imminent sale of Ivory Coast forward Gervinho.
Payet appeared in 33 games for Saint-Etienne last season, finding the back of the net 13 times for the record holding Ligue 1 winners.
Lille will be delighted to capture the winger, especially given much interest in his services from outside France, with English club Liverpool most recently linked with a bid.
