Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is staying tight-lipped over his future after sources confirmed the Gunners would sell the Spaniard to Barcelona for the right price.

While this was music to Fabregas’ ears, Arsenal are demanding a premium fee for their captain and Barcelona, currently in the midst of tying up a deal for Alexis Sanchez, are finding it difficult to produce an offer to tempt the Gunners; a £27M bid was rejected, with Arsenal looking for a package closer to £40M.

Fabregas for his part, like a true professional, is keeping his thoughts very firmly to himself.

"If a player is on the market it’s because a club does not want them, and I have no problem", commented Fabregas.

Pressed further about a potential move to Barcelona, the midfielder determined not to add to the increasing speculation.

"I’ve got nothing to speak or say. I’m very quiet.

"If something happens it’s because it has to happen. I’m always optimistic."

Fabregas has a realistic chance of moving to the Camp Nou this summer, but Barcelona must make Arsenal a generous offer – it remains to be seen whether the Catalans can strike a deal, however discussions between the parties are making progress.
