Eden Hazard has increased the pressure on Lille to sell him to Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
The Belgian had been expected to remain with Lille for next season, despite interest from a who’s who of European football, including Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, Inter and Real Madrid.
But Hazard, who has not previously pushed for a move and has been content to let events run their course, has had his head turned by Paris Saint-Germain. Backed by the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, PSG aim to become the top team in French football and quickly return to the Champions League.
And their plans have excited Hazard.
"I believe in the project of the club", Hazard told L’Equipe.
"It’s the perfect medium step towards the top."
Hazard’s admission will only serve to increase the pressure on Lille to sell, although the champions are still keen for the Belgian to move outside France if he does leave at all. An offer of €30M+ however could be difficult to turn down.
