Manchester United are set to be disappointed by Andre Ayew, who has chosen to renew his contract with Marseille.

Ayew has been tracked by Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, with the English club linked with a bid earlier in the summer.

However, Marseille have persuaded the Ghana midfielder to extend his current deal, putting them very firmly in the driving seat over his future.

The 21-year-old has agreed to sign until 2015 at the Stade Velodrome and for Marseille the news is a big boost, and a vote of confidence in coach Didier Deschamps’ plans.

One of the sons of former African Football of the Year Abedi Pele, Ayew is rated as one of the most promising midfield prospects in world football.

The Ghana international impressed with his displays in last season’s Champions League, a tournament in which Manchester United ended the French side’s hopes – and took a good look at Ayew at close quarters in the process.
