Inter look to have won the race for Argentine midfielder Ricky Alvarez after the player’s current club Velez Sarsfield announced they had reached an agreement with the Serie A side.

Alvarez had been a target for English side Arsenal, although the Gunners look to have been outbid by the Nerazzurri, who will now move quickly to add the 23-year-old to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.

Velez confirmed the news and the amount Inter will pay through an official statement on their website.

"Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield announce that it has reached an agreement with Inter for the transfer of Ricardo Alvarez.

"The operation has a value of $17M for 90% of the player’s economic rights, with 10% to remain at the club.

"With regard to this percentage, Inter will have to pay a further €1M if the player completes 80 matches with the first team, otherwise Velez maintain this percentage in case of his subsequent sale to another club."
