Ligue 1 side Rennes are closing on the capture of full back Chris Mavinga from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old Frenchman is surplus to requirements at Anfield and has been made available for transfer by Reds’ director of football Damien Comolli.

Instantly Mavinga started to attract attention, with Belgian club Genk, Spanish side Villarreal, along with Rennes, all showing an interest.

It looks though as if Rennes have won the day and the Ligue 1 club are in the process of finalising an agreement with Liverpool and the player; the Reds wanted in the region of €1M.

Mavinga spent the second half of last season on loan at Belgians Genk, helping the club to the Jupilier League title. A return would have proven an attractive proposition, but Ligue 1 looks to have swayed the young defender.
