Samir Nasri may have departed with Arsenal on the club’s pre-season Asian tour, but reports from France suggest the midfielder has agreed personal terms with Manchester City over a move.
Nasri is refusing to sign a new contract at the Emirates and has just one year left to run on his present deal.
Manchester City and Manchester United have both put bids on the table for Nasri, worth £20M, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has not given up hope of persuading the former Marseille man to stay.
Wenger also hopes that the arrival of Gervinho will convince Nasri that the Gunners are determined to be serious players in next season’s Premier League title chase.
However, according to France Football, Wenger’s efforts will be useless as Nasri has agreed terms with City on a contract which will make the 24-year-old the highest paid player in French football history.
The Eastlands club, who were recently slammed by Bayern Munich’s chief executive for their £400M ten-year stadium sponsorship deal with Etihad, have put a package worth £9.5M per season in front of Nasri, and the player has agreed that Eastlands should be his destination.
However, as yet there has been no upwards move in City’s offer to Arsenal and the Gunners could stubbornly force the Frenchman to see out the remaining year of his current contract.
Nasri could still be sold to a club outside England, Wenger’s preference, if he is to leave, for a reduced sum to avoid strengthening Premier League rivals.
