French goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier has revealed that he could have chosen to move to Manchester City instead of Saint-Etienne.

The 24-year-old recently left relegated Monaco, opting to ink a four-year contract with Saint-Etienne, and the shot-stopper claimed his main reason for heading to the Stade Geoffroy Guichard in preference to Eastlands was first team football.

"My agent even received a call from Manchester City", said Ruffier.

"But for me the priority was to play for Saint-Etienne because I favoured the team.

"What interested me more was to play."

At Saint-Etienne Ruffier now faces the task of trying to dislodge incumbent Jeremie Janot.
