Benfica are reported to have offered Marseille the opportunity to buy Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo, but the French side refused.

The 28-year-old was priced at the €25M mark by the Portuguese giants, an amount thought too high by Didier Deschamps’ men, who opted against pursuing a deal at that level.

Cardozo has been prolific since he arrived in Lisbon in 2007 from Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys.

With over 100 goals for Benfica to his name in just four years, Cardozo is sure to attract interest now it is known the Portuguese would be willing to part with the striker.

However, at 28 years old, Benfica will surely have to drop their asking price to create interest in Cardozo’s signature.
