Barcelona have joined Arsenal in tracking young Mexican striker Carlos Fierro.

The 16-year-old shone at the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup which Mexico hosted and won, with Fierro scoring four times in the tournament.

It emerged earlier this week that Arsenal’s scouts had filed glowing reports on the forward and the Gunners are considering lodging a £2M bid with Fierro’s club Guadalajara.

However, reports from Spain suggest that Arsenal will have to battle Barcelona for the youngster’s signature.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona’s scouts too were impressed with Fierro and Pep Boada and Josep Maria Fuste have themselves delivered a positive report on the Mexican.

Barcelona are well aware of the Guadalajara talent factory, which has produced the likes of Carlos Vela and Javier Hernandez in recent years, and do not want to miss out on a potential gem.

Thus, just as Arsenal have enquired about Fierro, so the Camp Nou giants have asked the player’s agent Marc Salicru to keep them informed of developments.
