Liverpool are moving closer towards completing the signing of Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing.
The Reds announced late last night that they had agreed a fee for the England international after submitting an improved offer on Tuesday.
"Liverpool FC tonight announced they had agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the transfer of Stewart Downing.
"Liverpool have now been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the player and arrange a medical."
How much exactly Liverpool will pay to grab Downing remains unclear, with the club’s first bid of £15M rejected by Villa. An improved offer of £18.5M was submitted, but the Midlands side have consistently valued the 26-year-old at £20M.
