Barcelona have cast their eyes towards Rubin Kazan defender-cum-midfielder Cristian Ansaldi.

The 24-year-old has impressed in Russia since joining Rubin in 2008 for €3.6M from Argentine outfit Newell’s Old Boys.

Indeed, Ansaldi helped Rubin to bag consecutive Russian Premier League titles in 2008 and 2009.

Now Barcelona, who are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements, are pondering the possibility of moving for the Argentine, but if the Catalans do so then they will surely face opposition.

Ansaldi’s versatility, quickness to the tackle and never-say-die attitude have brought his name to the attention of fellow Russian Premier League outfit Zenit St. Petersburg, and Italians Juventus and Roma.

And if Rubin gave a hint of being willing to part with Ansaldi, all three could rival Barcelona for the Argentine’s signature.

Rubin are known to rate the player in the €12M bracket, with his price only held down by limited international recognition; Ansaldi has just one cap for Argentina, undoubtedly partially through plying his trade in Russia and off the beaten track.
