Colombian striker Falcao has dropped the clearest hint yet that he will not quit FC Porto for Chelsea this summer by signing a new contract with the Portuguese champions.
Falcao’s old deal with Porto had set his release clause at a very affordable €30M and ran until 2013; however, the new agreement signed and sealed between player and club commits the striker to Porto until 2015 and ups his release clause to €45M.
This is still some way below Falcao’s striker partner Hulk, whose own release clause stands at a substantial €100M.
The signal sent out by Falcao though is clear, and despite much talk that former Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas would dearly love to take the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge, the chances of a transfer being completed have receded.
Falcao, who is currently starring at the Copa America with Colombia, had been on record as stating his happiness at Porto. And he has now made good on his word.
