Wantaway Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has appeared to confirm that Manchester City are the frontrunners in the race for his signature if he cannot remain in Spain.

Aguero had, upon announcing his wish to leave the Vicente Calderon this summer, hinted that he wanted to remain in La Liga, placing Barcelona and Real Madrid as his only two realistic destinations.

But neither club have approached Atletico and the chances of Aguero ending up at either the Bernabeu or Camp Nou look slim. And this has forced a rethink from the Argentine and an admission that England is an option.

Asked about whether Real Madrid was still a possibility, Aguero replied: "I don’t make bets.

"I have already made it clear that I don’t see myself at Atletico anymore. I will try to do what’s best for me."

And with Manchester City eyeing the striker as a replacement for Carlos Tevez, the Argentine gave the Citizens clear encouragement.

"I know that my representatives are working and I do not want to think about it. I’ll look at it after the Copa America when it’s quieter.

"I’d rather play in Spain or England, these are the two best countries."
