Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho has warned Barcelona that Jose Mourinho’s side at the Bernabeu is improving with every day, and is tipping to Portuguese to be at the peak of his powers next season.

Los Blancos lost out in La Liga to Barcelona in the last campaign, while the Catalans also put Mourinho’s men out of the Champions League. But the former Chelsea coach did enjoy a measure of revenge by beating Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey to claim long overdue silverware for the capital city club.

And Carvalho believes that is just the beginning, with Mourinho’s teams on average enjoying better second seasons under his leadership than first.

"Jose Mourinho’s teams improve every day and I guess that’s why his second year at a side is the best.

"We all know each other better. We grow every day. We try to improve and make our game progress."

The Portugal international also declared Real Madrid’s summer recruits to be of a good standard.

"Our new reinforcements are very good.

"It’s still too soon to talk about them, but I believe they will make the team improve."
