Out-of-favour Real Madrid star Sergio Canales has confirmed that he does not wish to leave La Liga.

Canales’ agent stated a week ago that his client was not looking to leave Spain, but the British press still linked with 20-year-old with Premier League sides Aston Villa, Everton and Queens Park Rangers.

The only firm offer Canales’ management team have received from outside Spain came from Lille, but the French champions were politely refused, with the Spaniard’s desire to remain in his homeland remaining a constant.

Now Canales has firmed up that position, explaining that he does not want to head abroad.

"I would prefer to stay in Spain", Canales told Spanish daily AS.

"I want to get as many minutes as possible and if it isn’t at Real Madrid, it will be with another [Spanish] club."

Canales is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2016 and the midfielder could jump ship on loan to either Valencia, Villarreal or Sevilla.
