Liverpool are thought to have been informed by Vasilis Torosidis’ agent that they will need to move quickly if they wish to sign his client.

Fellow English Premier League club Stoke City have appeared to be in pole position for the Olympiacos star and Torosidis’ agent Giorgos Kazianis is believed to have informed the Reds that it is just a matter of time before Tony Pulis’ side place a bid on the table for the 26-year-old.

Liverpool have been linked with the versatile Greek international in recent months, although no firm bid has materialised.

How much will be needed to take the Greek international from Olympiacos is clear; with the Super League champions not welcoming interest in Torosidis, the player’s €7M release clause must be met.

Torosidis is able to play in a variety of positions, from right back to left back and as a central midfielder. Indeed, it is the Greek’s versatility that makes him such a valuable option for Olympiacos.

The player himself is thought keen on a move to the English Premier League, although Stoke City’s lack of Champions League football – Torosidis would play in Europe’s top club competition if he remained at Olympiacos – may hinder their bid for the player.

And Liverpool, though absent from European competition completely in the 2011/12 campaign, at least hold the promise of competing at the top end of the Premier League table.
