Ligue 1 club Rennes are hoping to complete the signing of left back Chris Mavinga from Liverpool on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Belgian side Genk and helped the Cristal Arena outfit to the Jupiler League title.

But despite showing improvement and possessing much potential, Liverpool swiftly decided that Mavinga was surplus to requirements and could leave Anfield if his asking price was met.

Rennes quickly joined Genk in bidding for the Frenchman, but it was the prospect of playing regularly in his homeland’s top flight which saw Les Rouges et Noirs preferred by Mavinga.

And reports from French source Ouest-France have confirmed that Rennes sporting director Pierre Baton expects Mavinga to put pen to paper on a contract with the Ligue 1 side on Tuesday.

Mavinga will cost Rennes €1M and his departure from Anfield will leave Liverpool with one less left back. This is a situation the Reds are believes to be close to solving with the capture of Aly Cissokho from Lyon.

But while the deal is thought to be progressing, Liverpool were warned on Sunday by Lyon coach Remi Garde that he will not allow both Cissokho and Michel Bastos to leave Les Gones, with Bastos a target for Juventus and Chelsea.
