Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing to offer Cesc Fabregas a lucrative new contract to remain at the Emirates.

Wenger is ready to use all his charm on the Spanish midfielder, backed up by a hard cash offer, to persuade Fabregas to snub a move to his boyhood club Barcelona.

Indeed, Arsenal are thought to be willing to extend Fabregas’ current contract until 2017 and increase the amount his is paid to just over £7M per year.

However, even with such an attractive offer ready to put on the table Wenger still faces a tough time persuading Fabregas that this is not the year he should return to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona remain confident of finally getting their man and will add Fabregas to Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to be unveiled as a Blaugrana player this week after Chile were knocked out of the 2011 Copa America.

Josep Guardiola and co. believe an increased attractive package will not be successful in keeping Fabregas at the Emirates and point to Manchester City’s offer of over £10M per year as evidence that, were the Spaniard motivated by cold hard cash, he would have agitated for a switch to Eastlands.
