Neymar could well make Real Madrid wait to take him to Spain in order to remain with Santos until 2012.
Jose Mourinho’s side are leading the chase for the young Brazilian striker and are desperate to push through a move this summer. Indeed, the Portuguese has gone on record as stating that he believes Los Blancos require another forward.
And while Neymar is undoubtedly attracted to Real Madrid and has little problem with the personal terms on offer at the Bernabeu, he is believed to still have not made a final decision, recently commenting upon his arrival back in Brazil from the Copa America in Argentina: "I’m staying at Santos."
The 19-year-old is known to be keen to have a crack at helping current club Santos to become world champions by leading the side into the Club World Cup in December.
There Neymar and his fellow starlet Ganso believe that Santos could dethrone the all-conquering Barcelona.
And the transfer plot thickens when Barcelona are brought into the mix.
While Real Madrid are pushing hard for a deal to be completed this summer, Barcelona would wait until July 2012 for Neymar, allowing the player to contest the Club World Cup and also appear in the 2012 Olympic Games before stepping on a plane for Spain.
Los Blancos remain in the driving seat however, with Neymar’s agent confirming that if Mourinho’s side meet the Brazilian’s €45M buy-out clause, Neymar will be on his way to the Bernabeu – the only question that remains is ‘when?’.
