Barcelona have announced the completion of their long awaited move for Chile international Alexis Sanchez.
The 22-year-old has arrived from Serie A side Udinese, a club he helped to a remarkable 2010/11 season which saw the southern Italian side claim a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Sanchez quickly became one of the hottest properties in world football with Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid all linked with moves for his services.
The situation quickly boiled down to a duel between Barcelona and Manchester City, but the forward’s desire to head to the Camp Nou meant the European Champions were always in the driving seat.
Sanchez has signed a five-year deal with Barcelona and is thought to have cost Josep Guardiola’s men some €26M, but the total could reach €35M with add-ons.
"Sanchez is very young", said Barcelona boss Guardiola.
"He can play in all three attacking positions, he shows intense defensive skills, he is direct and from what I have been told he is a very nice kid."
