Reports from Brazil suggest that Inter have come to an agreement with defender Lucio about a new deal to keep the player at the San Siro.

Lucio has just one year left on his contract with the Nerazzurri and had been keen for a two-year extension.

However, Inter only wanted to extend the 33-year-old’s contract by another single year and this had caused several sides to investigate the possibility of signing the veteran Brazilian, handing him the longer term deal he wanted.

The two chief interested parties were Lucio’s former club Bayern Munich and English Premier League outfit Chelsea.

But it now appears that Inter have accepted that Lucio deserves a two-year extension and it is thought the Nerazzurri have come to terms with the stopper over a deal to keep him at the club until 2014.

Nothing is likely to be officially signed before Lucio returns to Milan in two weeks’ time, having been handed an extended break due to his participation in the 2011 Copa America with Brazil.
