Unhappy Argentine midfielder Fernando Gago is hoping to return to his homeland and sign for Boca Juniors.

The 25-year-old, who began his career with Boca Juniors, representing them until a 2007 move to Real Madrid, is out of the first team picture at the Bernabeu and free to leave.

However, so far no concrete offers have landed in the Spanish capital and it is doubtful Boca could afford the fee Real Madrid would demand for the midfielder.

A loan though may be possible and Gago is crossing his fingers.

"Fernando wants to return to Boca", Gago’s agent Lombillo Marcelo told Argentine daily Ole.

"He called Beraldi [Boca vice-president ed.] and Fernando wants to play for Boca for at least a year.

"We have to negotiate now with Real Madrid."
