AC Milan have been dealt a blow to their hopes of launching a successful raid on Bayern Munich for Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Rossoneri still want to add a big name to their midfield before the new season begins and the 26-year-old has regularly featured high on the club’s wanted list.

Bayern Munich were always tipped to make any move for Schweinsteiger a difficult one however, and even before an official bid has landed at the Allianz Arena, the German giants are warning Milan off.

"There is still a year he can play at the same level as Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta", said Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes.

"Bastian is highly regarded within the club, so he’s not for sale."

Milan are unlikely to be put off so easily from pursuing Schweinsteiger however, with the Italians always anticipating that extracting the Germany international from the Bundesliga would prove a complex operation.

And so, a bid of €25M is still being contemplated at the San Siro.
