English side Stoke City and German club Hamburg have seen their chances of signing Mohamed Sissoko from Juventus rise after La Liga outfit Real Sociedad pulled out of the running.

Real Sociedad had been keen to take the midfield destroyer to Spain, but have concluded that they simply cannot afford to move for the ex-Liverpool man.

"We admire the player, but it’s almost impossible for us to sign him", said Real Sociedad technical director Javier Perez.

"We have not made a real offer to Juventus, we just tried to understand if we could afford the amount for this transfer and of his contract.

"But it’s a very expensive operation."

Sissoko is available from the Bianconeri for the right price and the Mali man would welcome the opportunity for a change of scenery having struggled to make a real impact in Turin.

Bundesliga side Hamburg have been tracking the 26-year-old along with English club Stoke City. French giants Paris Saint-Germain also hold an interest, although the Ligue 1 side prefer Toulouse’s Moussa Sissoko and the recent arrival of Blaise Matuidi could provide direct competition for any defensive midfielder. The Mali man therefore will think long and hard over landing at the Parc des Princes.

The next few weeks appear crucial for Sissoko and Juventus, both in judging the offers on the table and also deciding where the midfielder will end up.
