Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has advised Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to cash in on Cesc Fabregas.

The 69-year-old has compared Fabregas’ situation to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the only difference being that Real Madrid came calling for the Portuguese, rather than Barcelona.

Ferguson’s message though is clear and the United boss does not believe so much effort should go into keeping a player whose heart is no longer in the task ahead.

"There is a certain moment when a player can’t stay at a club anymore", said Ferguson.

"Cristiano Ronaldo was not unhappy at United, but when Real Madrid called he told me it was important that he move there."

Barcelona are working overtime to conclude the transfer of Fabregas, with midfielder Xavi stating the Spaniard’s arrival is crucial for the Blaugrana’s future.
