AC Milan could make a late move to rescue Alberto Aquilani from his Liverpool nightmare.
Aquilani spent last term on loan at Juventus and is desperate to remain in Italy. The Bianconeri were though unwilling to pay the €16M demanded by Liverpool to make the deal permanent and even refused to move for the midfielder after the Reds dropped their asking price.
Instead Juventus signed Andrea Pirlo from Milan on a free transfer, leaving Aquilani looking high and low for another Serie A club, lest he head back to Anfield and the substitutes’ bench; Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has already added three midfielders this summer in the shape of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing, leaving little room for Aquilani.
Fiorentina have been ready to sign Aquilani and at one point this week a move appeared on the verge of being sealed. La Viola would take the former Roma man on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €11M.
Liverpool though, like Aquilani, would prefer a permanent deal and the possibility of a swoop from Milan is intriguing.
The Rossoneri want to add another midfielder but have been thwarted in a move for Marek Hamsik while Bastian Schweinsteiger appears an unrealistic dream at present.
And so interest could swing Aquilani’s way, with Milan known to have had contact with the player’s representatives over a potential move earlier this summer.
