Arsenal may yet face late competition for Valencia winger Juan Mata from Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger is keen to do a deal for Mata, regardless of whether Cesc Fabregas completes his long awaited switch to Barcelona this summer and will use money from the sale of Nicklas Bendtner to Sporting Lisbon to smooth the move.
The Gunners have been negotiating hard with Los Che and are thought to have come to an agreement which will see £17.5M sent to Spain for the 23-year-old.
But Arsenal may be in a race against time to sign Mata, who starred in this summer’s European Under-21 Championships, as City are believed to be pondering a late move.
City boss Roberto Mancini is known to rate Mata and, having wrapped up a deal for striker Sergio Aguero, is free to concentrate his attention elsewhere.
Arsenal should benefit from the fact that Mata is keen to head to the Emirates however and City would need to move quickly to jump the queue.
