Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has declared his delight at how negotiations with Javier Pastore are progressing and is confident the Argentine will soon sign on the dotted line.

An offer of €45M was enough to persuade Palermo to accept PSG’s bid for Pastore and snub interest from English giants Chelsea and the player is set to become the most expensive in French football history.

"We are close and optimistic", said Leonardo when questioned over talks with the 22-year-old.

"We are pleased we’ll be able to get him. We’ll see what happens in the coming days."

Pressed on why it is taking so long to unveil Pastore, the former AC Milan and Inter coach commented that these matters do not always move swiftly.

"Well, it’s a bit long, but these are not things which are resolved quickly.

"They were very good discussions with the player and Palermo, but we have yet to agree on everything. When we get there everyone will be happy.

"Negotiations are going very well. The idea is to have everything completed before 6th August."
