Arsenal want Cesc Fabregas’ future resolving by Friday.

Fabregas is the subject of intense interest from Barcelona, but progress towards concluding a deal which would see the Spaniard head to the Camp Nou has been slow.

This in turn has led to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger becoming more and more frustrated, with the transfer saga casting a shadow over Arsenal’s pre-season preparations.

And to this end, Friday has been placed down as a deadline by the English club in a bid to decide whether the midfielder will stay or go.

Wenger would like Fabregas’ future settled before Arsenal know their opponents for the Champions League playoff round – the draw is on Friday – while the date for registering players, 7th August, is also a vital juncture.

Were the Spaniard to be registered and played in Arsenal’s qualifier, he would be ruled out of Barcelona’s defence of their European title and, by default, any transfer would be certain to be postponed for a further year.

The prospect of this should force Barcelona’s hand.
