Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that the arrival of Alexis Sanchez at the Camp Nou could help Lionel Messi to enjoy greater space on the pitch.
Chile international Sanchez landed after a long pursuit earlier this summer, in a deal which could see the European Champions pay up to €35M to Udinese.
Pique believes that the amount Barcelona have paid will be well spent and Sanchez should help Messi in the forthcoming season.
"He will come in handy to open spaces on the pitch", Pique told ESPN.
"And I think that Messi is going to have some more breathing room and space.
"Opponents mark Leo a lot and having another player very good individually, in this case Alexis, will mean they have to mark them.
"And then that will give us more space for Leo."
