Roma coach Luis Enrique has warned interested parties off bidding for midfielder Daniele De Rossi, declaring the Italian a "fundamental player".

The 28-year-old has been linked with several sides across Europe, with Real Madrid and Manchester United known to be keeping a close eye on the combative midfielder’s situation.

But former Barcelona B coach Enrique is adamant that he does not want to lose De Rossi and furthermore expects to see the Giallorossi idol sign a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

"He is a fundamental player", said the Spaniard.

"I’m sure he will continue [with Roma].

"I do not know when [he will sign a new contract], but it will happen."

De Rossi has been impressed with Roma’s transfer dealings this summer. Enrique has signed, amongst others, Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg from Ajax, midfielder Erik Lamela from River Plate and Spanish striker Bojan Krkic from Barcelona.
