Roma coach Luis Enrique is pushing for the Giallorossi to do a deal with Villarreal for Brazilian striker Nilmar.

Villarreal had stuck resolutely to a €50M asking price for Nilmar, effectively closing the door on a potential move to Roma.

But recently this stance has softened, with the Yellow Submarine believed to have informed Roma late last week that an offer of €24M would be likely to be met with a positive response.

Roma had proposed paying €14M plus a number of bonuses for the 27-year-old, but this was not acceptable to Villarreal.

Giallorossi coach Enrique has urged his side to return with a better offer however and now a bid of between €18M and €20M is being prepared in the Italian capital.

Even if Villarreal accept Roma’s new proposal for the former Lyon man though, the Serie A side will still have work to do, with a non-EU player needing to be shipped out to make room for the Brazilian.

This would most likely be midfielder Fabio Simplicio, who is interesting Corinthians.
