Liverpool have been linked with a move for young French defender Loris Nery.

The 20-year-old currently turns out for Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne and is a player the Reds Director of Football Damien Comolli knows well from his time at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

And according to L’Equipe, Nery is being closely monitored by Liverpool with a view to sealing a swoop.

Nery is under contract with Saint-Etienne until 2013, but it has been suggested that should Liverpool come to an agreement to buy the defender, then he would instantly be loaned back, either to the Greens or another Ligue 1 club, to continue his development in France.

The starlet would be unlikely to receive the required game time at Anfield, and a loan would be an attractive option.

Nery only made his senior debut last year, but has already taken huge steps and impressed observers.

The defender, who was born in Saint-Etienne and quickly joined his hometown club, also won his first France Under-21 cap earlier this year.
