Sources in Italy suggest that Samuel Eto’o has passed his medical with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala and is expected to sign on the dotted line on Friday.

While Eto’o is thought to believe that the contract offer on the table from Anzhi is too good to turn down – the former Barcelona striker will earn €20M per season for three years – there remain minor details to be ironed out between Inter and the Russian side.

Inter are looking for in excess of €30M for Eto’o; money which would allow the Nerazzurri to step up their search for a comparable replacement.

Inter have their eyes trained on unhappy Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez, but the Argentina international will command a big fee and substantial wages.

As a more short term option, the Nerazzurri are also looking at Atletico Madrid’s Diego Forlan.

Anzhi for their part are keen to conclude the deal with Eto’o and Inter as quickly as possible as the Russian club are determined to grab a Champions League spot this season.
