Chelsea are leading the race to sign Spanish winger Juan Mata from Valencia.

Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has identified Mata as being able to add vital width to his side and Chelsea are willing to back the Portuguese to ensure he gets his man.

And to this end the Blues have sent an offer of around €30M to the Mestalla.

Chelsea are confident that this bid should find favour with Los Che, despite the Spanish side remaining keen on keeping hold of the 23-year-old.

Mata has also been interesting Tottenham Hotspur, while Arsenal failed to take the player to the Emirates earlier this summer, missing a vital opportunity to activate a buy-out clause in the Spaniard’s contract that applied until the end of July.

Now Chelsea are in the driving seat, with Villas-Boas desperate to push through a number of signings before the transfer window closes.
