Spanish legend Raul is edging closer to the Schalke exit door.

Raul turned down a switch to English Premier League side Blackburn Rovers earlier this week, but the former Real Madrid man still looks set to move from Schalke before the transfer window closes.

The 34-year-old did not travel with Schalke for their Europa League clash against HJK Helsinki in Finland on Thursday – a game the Ruhr side lost 2-0.

Speculation has swirled around Germany suggesting that Raul is not seeing eye-to-eye with current coach Ralf Rangnick.

The Schalke coach is also thought to be ambivalent over whether Raul remains at the club.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have been mooted as a possible destination for the striker, but Schalke’s sporting director Horst Heldt has declared his intention to hold talks with Raul, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

"We will promptly seek a personal interview with Raul to find out what the player wants", said Heldt.
