Newcastle United are preparing to lodge a bid for Lyon full back Aly Cissokho before the summer transfer window closes.

The Magpies recently lost Spanish defender Jose Enrique to Liverpool and Cissokho would appear on the face of it to be a perfect replacement for the former Villarreal man; Cissokho was also targeted by Liverpool earlier this summer.

Lyon are willing to listen to offers for the 23-year-old and, according to Le Parisien, Newcastle are expected to send a bid of €8M to the Stade Gerland.

Whether that amount will find favour at the French side remains unclear, although Cissokho’s availability is not in doubt, with Lyon coach Remi Garde recently admitting that the door was open for the defender to leave.

Under contract with Lyon until 2014, Cissokho endured a disappointing 2010/11 campaign with the Ligue 1 club.

And with Michel Bastos also at the Stade Gerland, Lyon are prepared to bid farewell to Cissokho if they are made an attractive offer.

Cissokho landed at Lyon in 2009 from FC Porto after a proposed move to AC Milan broke down. Lyon paid for €15M for the promising Frenchman.
