Roma are bidding to see off interest in midfielder Daniele De Rossi by offering the Italian international a new lucrative contract.

De Rossi’s situation is being monitored by both Manchester United and Real Madrid, with the pair prepared to pounce if the 28-year-old looks closer to the Giallorossi exit door.

This is something new Roma owner Thomas DiBenedetto is hoping to avoid and to this end the American held a meeting recently with the club’s chief executive and sporting director.

In addition to new signings being discussed, a proposal for extending De Rossi’s deal was also considered.

And the signs are that Roma will look to sign the Giallorossi icon to a contract worth some €4M per season, with a number of bonuses depending on the club’s performance.

De Rossi is set to be in demand if he refuses to extend his current deal, although Roma will do all they can to ensure the midfielder puts pen to paper.
