Mauro Zarate will only leave Lazio if a club is prepared to pay big money to take the striker from Rome – that is the message from the Argentine’s agent.

The goal-getter has been linked with English giants Arsenal in recent weeks, while Inter have also declared an interest amidst speculation that Lazio are ready to cash in on their forward. Indeed, this speculation only increased when Zarate was left out of Lazio’s squad for the Europa League clash against Rabotnicki.

And the arrivals of French striker Djibril Cisse and Germany forward Miroslav Klose over the summer only added to the talk that Zarate was now expendable.

But according to Giuseppe Bozzo, Zarate’s agent, such talk is wide of the mark, though a big bid could snare the forward.

"I decided to become Mauro’s agent because he is a clever guy. He’s a champion", said Bozzo.

"Zarate is not a player like others, he is important both for president [Claudio] Lotito and the fans.

"Mauro is attached to Lazio and without a concrete offer from a club willing to invest a lot of money, he won’t leave.

"I talk every day with Lotito and there is not a need to sell the player."

"Now Inter have shown their interest and so we must take a calm decision.

"Inter have contacted me, not the club. It’s a possibility that there can be a negotiation."
