Juan Mata has declared his delight at completing his move to Chelsea and instantly revealed that he has winning trophies on his mind.

The winger has cost Chelsea a fee of around £24M to buy from La Liga side Valencia and has signed a five-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club.

Mata had been targeted by Arsenal earlier in the summer transfer window, while Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur had also watched developments closely.

But it is to Chelsea that the 23-year-old wanted to move – and his motivation was clear: trophies.

"It’s all about the opportunity to win trophies that I have here", admitted Mata.

"[Andre] Villas-Boas is someone who won almost everything last year and we are both here with the idea of winning lots this season."

And Mata believes that winning a trophy in his first season at Stamford Bridge is possible, with the Premier League a target.

"I want to adapt as quickly as possible to my new surroundings, my colleagues and this league, and I would love to win a trophy in my first season.

"If it can be the Premier League then great."
