Samuel Eto’o’s former team-mate at Barcelona, Ludovic Giuly, has admitted that he would have joined Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala if he were in the Cameroon striker’s place.
Eto’s is heading to Russia after accepting a contract worth €20M per year, after tax, with Anzhi.
And while his move has met with some criticism, with the striker calling time on his spell with Inter to join Anzhi, Giuly believes that with the sums on the table there is nothing else Eto’o could have done.
"When we see sums like that we certainly think about it, even if it is in Russia", Giuly told RMC.
"He is 30, has won everything, has nothing to prove and now has a new challenge to look forward to. So I’m not surprised.
"If they had offered it to me, I’d have been walking there."
And Giuly also added that it should be the career of Eto’o that is being discussed and not just the money the Cameroon international will earn.
"I like him. It’s a shame we only talk about the money when we could talk about the career of Samuel. Wherever he’s gone, he’s won titles."
