Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The striker had been interesting Spurs boss Harry Redknapp for most of the summer, while Real Madrid, the side Adebayor spent the second half of last season on loan at, were also linked with a move.

However, no switch to the Bernabeu materialised and, with little chance of first team football at Manchester City, the Togo international has opted for White Hart Lane.

Negotiations between City and Spurs did drag on, with a sticking point the 27-year-old’s high wages at Eastlands.

Spurs boss Redknapp will be delighted to finally get his man though, with the former Portsmouth manager believing the London club lack real presence up front.

That is something Adebayor, an ex-Arsenal player, will surely provide.
