Paris Saint-Germain are ready to rival Real Betis for the signature of Nicolas Anelka if Chelsea opt to sell the Frenchman.

La Liga outfit Betis would like to pair Anelka up with Roque Santa Cruz, who is expected complete the formalities of his switch to Spain from Manchester City imminently.

And following this Betis will enquire about Anelka’s availability after talk that the former Liverpool striker could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge before next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

But the side which won promotion from the Segunda Division to La Liga last season will face opposition for the 32-year-old’s signature.

And that opposition will come from French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who have long been keen to welcome the striker back to the club at which he began his career.

A move back to the Parc des Princes would represent Anelka’s third spell with PSG after also joining the club from Real Madrid in 2000.

For the Frenchman a move home could be the perfect way to cap a much-travelled career.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea boss Andre Villa-Boas will entertain offers from Betis or PSG, but the Portuguese recently injected youth into his front line with the signing of Romelu Lukaku and could bring forward a changing of the guard at Stamford Bridge.
