Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to bring in two or three more players before the end of the transfer window, believing that if he lands his targets it can spark a Premier League title challenge from the Gunners.

Wenger is enduring a difficult summer having lost Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, with Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Eboue also exiting the Emirates; Nicklas Bendtner is expected to slip through the exit door before the window slams shut too.

The Arsenal manager has identified his targets, one of which is believed to be Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez – though Wenger has been warned off the Argentine -, but understands clubs are not keen to sell their stars so close to the 31st August deadline.

"I will try to strengthen the squad in depth because at the moment we are a bit short number wise", said Wenger, stressing that "but if we get two or three players in we have the quality to challenge."

The Frenchman also admitted that he was at the mercy of other clubs however.

"I am anxious because I want to do it and I try everything to do it.

"We are dependent on the desire of the people who have the players to sell the players."
