Having gone cold on a switch to Tottenham Hotspur after Real Madrid agreed to sell him to the English club, Lassana Diarra has options in Italy.

Diarra is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and was omitted from Los Blancos pre-season North American and Asian tours.

A fee of €12M was agreed with Spurs for his services and the Frenchman appeared ready to land at White Hart Lane. However, at the last minute the former Chelsea player took umbrage at being forced out of the Spanish capital and cooled on the switch, declaring he had not agreed to head to London.

The suspicion remains that Diarra is trying to extract a more attractive financial package from Jose Mourinho’s team in order to leave and Tottenham remain very much a possible destination in the final days of the transfer window.

But now Serie A is also a realistic option.

According to Corriere dello Sport, both AC Milan and Roma have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old.

Roma are seeking to add more experience to their midfield unit, while Milan lost Mathieu Flamini to a long-term injury at the weekend, with the former Arsenal man looking at five months on the sidelines – Diarra is seen as a potential replacement.
