Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of midfielder Scott Parker from West Ham United.

Parker has been linked with an exit from Upton Park for most of the summer after West Ham were relegated from the Premier League and, despite the Hammers’ fine start to the season in the Championship, is still set on remaining in the top flight.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce confirmed after the club’s weekend win over Nottingham Forest that Parker could well be moving to White Hart Lane.

"We will miss a player of Parker’s quality and we want him with us if the negotiation doesn’t go through", said Allardyce.

"Whether the deal is achievable yet, I’m not sure. I’ve had lots of conversations with the chairman.

"If he does actually leave, I need to replace him immediately. I don’t expect any other players to leave before Wednesday."

Parker’s arrival is expected to be made possible by Spurs’ sale of midfielder Wilson Palacios to Stoke City for £6M.
