Lille are aiming to bring in two new faces before the transfer window closes – English midfielder Joe Cole and Polish forward Ireneusz Jelen.

Cole is believed to be ready to move from Liverpool to Lille on a season-long loan deal, with the offer of Champions League at the French champions proving too tempting to turn down.

Polish striker Jelen meanwhile saw his contract with fellow Ligue 1 outfit Auxerre expire at the end of last season and has been taking his time over his next move.

The 30-year-old though has agreed to join Rudi Garcia’s men and should prove something of a replacement for Gervinho, who was sold to Arsenal earlier this summer.

One player who will not be landing at the French champions though is Israeli schemer Yossi Benayoun.

Lille were interested in the Chelsea player and even took the step of speaking to his representatives about personal terms and the length of any contract.

However, the former Liverpool midfielder has been deemed too expensive, with his wage packet simply not within reach of Les Dogues.
