Sources in Italy suggest that Tottenham Hotspur have beaten off competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for promising midfielder Danilo Pereira.

The 19-year-old currently turns out for Serie A club Parma, who purchased the starlet for the measly fee of €150,000 from Portuguese giants Benfica.

Pereira shone at the recent Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, a competition in which his national side, Portugal, reached the final, only to lose out to Brazil.

An all-action midfielder, Pereira instantly piqued the interest of scouts from a number of English Premier League sides, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

But it is Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham side who now look to have seen off their rivals to claim the midfielder’s signature according to Sportitalia.

Spurs are racing to finalise the deal with less than 24 hours left before the summer window closes.

The Portuguese star has yet to make his debut in Serie A with Parma and was loaned out to Greek Super League outfit Aris Salonkia last season.
