Mauro Zarate has joined Inter on loan for the rest of the season in preference to Liverpool.
The Argentine forward was the subject of interest from Liverpool earlier today, with the English side contacting Zarate’s club Lazio to express their willingness to take the player to Anfield.
Inter too though were also keen on taking Zarate and it is the Nerazzurri who have won the 24-year-old’s favour.
Zarate has agreed a one-year loan with Inter, for which Lazio will receive €2.7M. The Nerazzurri will also have the option of making the move a permanent one for a further payment of €15M.
The Argentine was pushed down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico due to the arrivals of Djibril Cisse and Miroslav Klose in recent months.
Zarate had also not seen eye-to-eye with Lazio coach Edy Reja.
Liverpool have now switched their attention to out-of-favour Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy.
